Geek Out Challenge – Day 12

A little reminder/intro. The Geek Out Challenge was started by Megan at A Geeky Gal. She’ll be posting the prompts every day until the 30th. On the 31st, she’ll upload a master post with all the questions. You can join us all now with her challenge or wait until the end of the month to tackle all the questions at once.

Now, onto the prompt!

Day 12 – Favorite video game (or video game series)?

If you know me well enough, this should not be a shocker.

It was either this or P3P. I love P3P and I’m mad I never got to finish it. Akihiko senpai is one of my favorite characters and I absolutely still admire him to this day as one of my top game crushes.

Tales of the Abyss was a JOURNEY. It was my first game of that franchise actually. I still need to finish Vesperia for a proper review of the game itself. I should get on that this week. I took some time so I didn’t burn myself out on the game.

This game I purchased it during 2006. I was working at GameStop. My second job. I was working part time at this place with hopes of getting it to be my actual job instead of working at Macaroni Grill. It didn’t work out that way sadly. The game caught my eye and so did the characters. I was initially drawn to Luke because of his red hair.

Boy how wrong was I. He was a DICK. As I progressed through the game though, I realized that he wasn’t as bad as I thought. I will admit that I ended up falling hard for Asch instead. That is still my favorite character in the whole game. I was unable to replicate the glitch that would let me finish the game as him though.

The acting was amazing. The cast was absolutely on point. This game served to me as a formal introduction to Yuri Lowenthal’s talents. It also served as another passageway into learning more about my favorite actors.

I think I’ve mentioned the OC I made up for this universe and how I’ve probably written more versions of that fanfiction than I can count. I still haven’t finished the rewrite I initiated a few years ago. I really need to get on that.

This game was so intricate, so involved. The story was complicated but, it wasn’t hard for me to figure out. Especially when I started playing with the New Game Plus. The game was giving you subtle hints here and there about how the characters, their pasts, and all of these things were interconnected with each other.

I remember seeing a review of this game and they had to give it a 3.5 or a 3 instead of a higher score because it was impossible to talk about the game without possibly spoiling something. They were right. Oh so right. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. There’s only one bone I’ve always had to pick with this game and it’s the Asch/Natalia pairing. I recently found out that a close friend of mine who also played this game felt the same way. That relationship felt like it was dumped on us because Asch and Natalia were originally engaged when they were kids. Then there were these minor memories tossed in and they didn’t feel genuine. To me those two were never well matched.

This game was also the reason I finally caved and got a 3DS(RIP mah baby. One of those incidental casualties after hurricane Maria.) just to be able to play this game all over again. I was just recently mentioning that since Vesperia is getting a lot of love, that Tales of the Abyss should get the same.

With the whole cast back. I need more of Yuri Lowenthal playing this character again. Or the manga that I never got to read. I need to find out if it ever got translated. There was so much more story that was told that I don’t recall ever seeing it make it to the US. It totally should’ve.

Can you tell I love this game? XD
