Summertime is right around the corner! So today (in this postthat I’ve had sitting in my drafts for far too long and in a meek effort of getting back into posting blogs regularly), in this K-pop recommendations throwback post, I’m going to show you some second and third gen sons that you definitely need to listen to. Let’s get right into it!
f(x) – Hot Summer
Of course, I’m going to open with this!
This song is twelve years old, holy crap.
As it’s been well-recognized in a lot of K-pop songs, Hot Summer delivers us a piping-hot cover of a Monrose original. It takes the original dance-pop track and adds more of that familiar electro-pop SM heavily used at the time. This is the type of song that I could’ve only expected them to cover and they absolutely delivered. With their unique blend of voices, f(x) gave us an outstanding summer song that is a must for my summer listening every year.
Parts of the chorus choreography are muscle memory at this point.
SISTAR – LOVING U
The OG summer queens!
Honestly, when they dropped this summer mini-album, they completely blew my mind. This quickly landed on my playlist with its cute and sweet lyrics. The added summer sound effects really bring the whole package home. With their amazing vocal delivery, SISTAR sweeps you up into their cozy summer day. Much like their other summer jams like, Shake It, Touch My Body, and I Swear, it’s a must-have song for those drives to the beach or pool.
2NE1 – Falling In Love
I really hope these girls serve us a comeback, especially after their Coachella performance a few years back.
This song is one I randomly find myself singing multiple times a year, not just in the summer. Aside from the music video being absolutely visually stunning, the combination of genres here brought us a fun vibe. With the combo of reggae, hip-hop, and electronic, we’ve got a catchy tune that takes us on a chill and dance vibe. The verses having that reggae vibe mellow you out and then swap out to bring us a happy chorus to spin around and get lost in the music.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to jump around a little bit to this one.
After School Red – Into the Night Sky
For their fourth single, After School split into two units called Red and Blue. Red featured a song produced by Brave Brothers, the unit composed of Kahi, U-ee, Nana, and Jung-Ah. A sexy break-up song that dropped in the late summer. The variety of vocal ranges helped bring this song to life and added a breath of life to the beat. This chorus choreography is also muscle memory for me.
I would bring up more current tunes, as I am lately spamming the ever-living-daylights out of BOOMPALA by Le Sserafim, but that’s another post for another time.
I hope you enjoyed some of these throwbacks and I’ll see you in the next one!
