So this last weekend was the Destiny 2 Beta(it was also Battlegrounds but that snoozefest won’t even be talked about in its own post) and I spent quite a bit of time with it.
I will be honest and tell you that I haven’t touched my PS4 in months. It was stored in a box last February and it hadn’t been seen since. I’d been dividing my time with Xbox and work and a bunch of other personal things that is still giving me anxiety.
So on Tuesday morning before the Beta went live I left it preloading but in true PSN fashion, it never got around to download at all!!! YAY. (not yay) So not only did I have to preload the 300MBs that took forever to get the game to run Bungie pulled the EXACT SAME STUNT AS VANILLA DESTINY. As in, I downloaded what I needed to start the game but I was nowhere near done because the rest of the beta needed to download.
I didn’t get to touch the Beta at all until Wednesday night. I did the opening mission as a Hunter since I really, really love the Arcstrider. Paper armor is still paper armor but the super for me this time around was better than a Bladedancer.
Carlos, Kitty and I played through the strike together for the first time and while we wiped at the boss a few times, we had a lot of fun. The video is down below if you’d like to take a look.
Like I said, we had a couple of laughs and really did enjoy the strike in the long run. We played it a couple of more times throughout the weekend and didn’t even dare to touch Crucible since Carlos and I are more PvE players than PvP.
I have a couple of bones to pick with the game however. It plays exactly like Destiny one. What’s worse, the RNG is just as bad. Carlos only got chest pieces for the most part while I was the one getting a bit of variety. If this is any indication as to how the game is going to, I’m hearing him raging already.
The damage taken vs damage dealt felt close to 1.3 Division. GOD I REMEMBER HOW BAD THAT WAS. UGH. We got stuff done but it was so maddening. I want my games to be challenging but don’t make them the bullet sponge and give me the paper armor. This is how you don’t have a good time.
Hunters are basically useless, which means that my lovely Arcstrider is going to have to be in the back burner. Carlos is decidedly playing a Titan. Much like Kitty and a bunch of our friends. So I think I’ll be able to get away with a Hunter…but they’re so bad it’s scary to even think about.
I do hope that they deliver when the game finally drops on September 6th. I already took a holiday to be able to play calmly on launch day and I’ll be streaming over at my Twitch. Time is still undecided because of Bungie and their unreliability. They give you a run size but then it’s still needing hours of install.
So now we play the waiting game. I’m ready to be disappointed Bungie. Bring it on.
Michi out!
