K-Pop Throwback Thursdays: “U Go Girl”

Listen, this post exists for one reason and one reason early.

My YouTube algorithm reminded me this song exists and it still holds.

This iconic bop was released all the way back in 2008, just a year shy of me being in the deep trenches of K-Pop fandom.(I was listening to the occasional song back in the day, just not as actively as I happened to do from 2009 onwards. Thanks Super Junior)

Anyway, while the video hasn’t been updated into a higher quality, but it still holds. The fashion is iconic, parts of the dance are still muscle memory for me, and it’s such a good progression. It’s loud, unapologetic, peak fun. With heavy bass, and the most brassy and out of pocket dance break that I’ve ever seen before we bridge into the final chorus, Hyori delivers one of the most iconic girl power anthems of the genre.

With E-Tribe at the production helm of this track, it’s not much of a shock. At the time, the duo had produced a few songs by then, and this was one of those tracks that cemented them as hitmakers.

This song has been covered many times since, an iconic crowd-pleaser that always gets everyone going. It’s fun to cover, and you can always see the girls having a great time with each performance.

Listen, I was gonna put a cover here but Hyori, the woman that your are, an icon at 44 performing with a live band and absolutely slaying is the proper way to close this post.

Also, bonus “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” because it’s a CRIME the song isn’t on Spotify. (It is on Apple Music though, so that’ll probably rot my brain for the rest of the day.)

Have fun trying to get the song out of your head, okay?

Lol, back to my cave I gooooooooooooooooo!
